Pet Grooming Supplies

Pet grooming is not just for show dogs and cats. In fact, regular grooming is essential for your pet’s overall health. The good news is that you do not have to break your wallet when purchasing pet grooming equipment. Listed below are the most important pet supplies you should have.

Proper Pet Grooming Supplies

Brush and Comb Never use a human brush on your dog or cat, as animal brush e s have bristles that are specially made for pets. If your pet has medium to long hair, you may wish to choose a bristle or wire pin brush. However, if your pet has short hair, a hound glove is the perfect choice. While slicker brushes and rakes are useful in removing tangles, shedding brushes are helpful in removing excess hair. Finally, flea combs can help remove fleas.

Nail Clippers and Styptic Powder No cat or dog grooming kit would be complete without some nail clippers and styptic powder. If you have a small pet, you will need either a small guillotine-type or scissor clipper. However, if you have a medium to large pet, you should use medium or large plier-type clippers. Be extra careful when clipping your pet’s nails, as there are veins running through them. If you cut into these veins, they will bleed and it can be painful for your pet. However, if you do happen to knick a vein, place a bit of styptic powder on the end of the nail and press firmly for a few seconds. This will stop any bleeding.

Pet Shampoo Finally, be sure to add some shampoo to your dog or cat grooming kit to bathe your pet. Just as with brushes, never use human shampoos on your pets, as they may irritate their skin. There are many shampoos for you to choose from including those for puppies or kittens, pets with sensitive skin, pets with skin problems, and pets with fleas  and/or ticks. These are the most important pet supplies you should have in your pet grooming kit. Some other cat and dog grooming supplies you may want to add to your kit include a nail file, a pet toothbrush and toothpaste, pet shears, electric trimmers, cotton balls and Q-tips.
