Japanese Kishu Build Information

The Japanese Kishu or Kishu Ken is a purebred dog originating in Japan. Used for centuries to hunt wild boar and deer, these dogs have compact bodies with well developed muscles, broad foreheads, and wedge shaped muzzles that taper off toward the nose. Their thick, high tail is curved and they have a double coat that may be either white, red, or sesame.

Japanese Kishu dogs are prized not only for their hunting skills, but also their loyalty, friendliness, and dignified appearance. Because these dogs can be willful and headstrong, it is necessary for owners to stay firm and consistent with training as well as take the time to properly socialize the dog. Since they began as working dogs, their high energy levels require daily walks as well as running sessions.
