Alert Ears

The ears are perked-up, forward-pointing and turning to catch sounds. The most common cause of alert ears is that something draws your pet’s attention. Alert ears are not a cause of concern, as it is normal behavior in cats and dogs.

How to Recognize

Dog communication can be difficult to learn, especially if you are new to dog ownership. Cat communication can be equally complicated, if not more so. If you want to know what your pet is trying to tell you, take a close look at its ears. A dog that is relaxed will hold its ears in a position typical of its breed. A relaxed cat will turn its ears forward and hold them in a slight down position. Alert ears, or ears that stand straight up, can indicate excitement. Alert ears can also indicate fear or aggression. When a dog pulls its ears back slightly, it is ready for attention and affection. Dogs and cats are expressive animals. They send signals to each other through body language that most humans never see. When you learn how to read your dog’s and cat’s body language, you’ll be able to understand how they are feeling.

Pet Insurance

When adding a dog or cat to your family you want to make sure your pet is happy, healthy and protected. During its lifetime your pet is exposed to many illnesses and diseases and some breeds are affected by a congenital disease which is a condition existing at birth. At these moments when your pet is ill or maybe needs surgery, you want to be protected for the unexpected and high veterinarian costs.
