Chantilly Tiffany

Jennie Robinson began a breeding program in 1969 with two brown cats with amber eyes that she purchased. Some say that these cats were part of an estate sale, and other people say that they were purchased from a pet shop. In either case, the resultant offspring were six kittens identical to their parents. These original cats went on to produce 60 kittens. The kittens found their way across the country, settling in several states. Eventually, Canadian breeders joined the breeding program, and the gene pool for the Tiffany cat was widened. In the United States and Canada, the Tiffany name was changed to Chantilly. In some circles of cat fancier, the breed is still called Tiffany.

The Chantilly/Tiffany is a medium-sized cat with a long body and slender legs. Their silky coat gives them an elegant appearance. Their tails are plumed and they have light feathering around their ears and neck. Tiffany cats are sturdy and muscular. The build of the Tiffany has often caused people to mistakenly assume that they have Persian ancestry. These cats have average-shaped heads, with few distinguishing features.

Personality

The Chantilly/Tiffany is a gentle and kind breed that is playful and easygoing. They are neither too independent, active, or demanding. The Chantilly/Tiffany enjoys playing with their human family and likes to communicate with soft chirps. The Tiffany cat is equally docile and playful. The breed can happily remain still for several hours, lounging on a favorite cushion or human lap. Tiffanies do have bursts of energy, easily found to be running through their homes and jumping at walls. If you are looking for a breed of cat that is loyal to its humans, this is the one for you. Typically bonding with one or two human members of the household, Tiffanies are not shy around strangers. This cat is perfect for families with children and other pets.

Breed Talents and Facts

The Tiffany cat is not hypoallergenic, but it as close as any cat with fur comes. Tiffanies have eyes that range from deep yellow to beautiful amber. Many Tiffany aficionados say that this breed is more dog-like than cat-like. Because the breed is so happy to lounge and bonds so closely with its people, it is said to be a fantastic choice for any person who is physically disabled. Because the breeding of the two original Tiffanies is unknown, it is difficult to name any similar breed.
